In the interview you find out why she writes how she does. She goes back to a lot of her childhood and does not think that names mean as much as people think they do. The interview helps you understand things better.
I agree that the interview helps you to better understand everything in her writing, but also why she wrote it. She obviously used biblical references, and her childhood memories are reflected as well.

I caught the biblical refrences in her story but i dont think she got her point across. I had no idea that is what she was tryin to say in this story
