This comments makes it seem like the man does not want the women to have the child. the girl says, "And once they take it away, you never get it back." This comment shows how the girl is confused and doesnt know what she wants to do. In the scond half of the story they both agree that getting an abortion is the right thing to do.

This shows how he feels like a failure and out of place.
